NO ASSERTION THAT
REMAINS OF AUSTRALIAN SERVICEMEN ARE HELD IN HAWAII
There is no assertion by anybody that there are Australian
remains being held in Hawaii and it is simply not possible to estimate the general
probability of any of our men having been recovered, as explained below.
However the possibility,
however remote, should be excluded, as far
as can be done with mtDNA analysis. Again, as explained below, this
exclusionary analysis has the potential to assist with the identification of
other individuals.
Results of Research so Far. As for our six, each loss incident is different.
I have analysed two of the six cases in detail and believe that in
one case, there would be only an infinitesimal possibility that
any remains would have been recovered to Hawaii, considering the circumstances of
the loss incident. All things considered, there is no justification to request
FRS at this stage for this case, as I see things. The other case that has been
examined in detail is such that I could not rule out the possibility that
remains could have been recovered, but on the other hand there is no evidence
to suggest this has happened. Having gathered together the facts
surrounding the other four cases, but not having made a full analysis, I would
say at this stage that FRS should be requested (at an appropriate time - not
necessarily next week).
