MEMORIAL MARKERS ERECTED NEAR HILL 82

These markers were organised and erected by Mr Matthew B. D'Arcy during his visit to the Hill 82 area on 28 July 2002. Matthew and party were the first expedition to gain access to this area.

PETER GILLSON A COY 1RAR KIA ON 8 NOVEMBER 1965 DURING OPERATION HUMP
BODY NOT RECOVERED

RICHARD PARKER A COY 1RAR MIA 8 NOVEMBER 1965 DURING OPERATION HUMP
(PRESUMED DEAD) BODY NOT RECOVERED

The markers were erected in the vicinity of GR 165238. From official records the location for the loss of Gillson was GR YT 165 233 - YT 164 232 and for Parker GR YT 165 234.

The main point is that the headstones have been erected and in my opinion it does not matter if they are not on the exact "officially " recorded location. They are in the general area of the action and outside of these markers, the nearest visible statement in memory of Parker and Gillson is probably somewhere here in Australia. So let's not bother about a couple of meters. Hats off to Matthew B. D'Arcy for his thoughtfulness and for his effort.
