In his letter to Carey McQuillan of 30 Jan 98, John Essex-Clark noted " We planned to do so but our superiors would not let us."

Here are the first few pages of the draft of OPORD 15/68 which clearly shows that the Battalion HQ staff had put pen to paper to have us return to Hill 82. Basically the operation was to be a battalion attack onto Hill 82. Perhaps in hindsight we may see the plan as a sledge hammer cracking a peanut but the intention was there.
